Mission Statement - School of Practical Nursing

The Cape Girardeau Career & Technology Center - School of Practical Nursing has been established to prepare entry-level practical nurses in basic nursing skills and knowledge. This preparation will enable them to function as collaborating members of the health care team in meeting the changing health needs of individuals and families with cultural and spiritual sensitivity.

The focus of the classroom theory and clinical practice encompasses 1) the restoration, promotion and maintenance of physical and mental health 2) the prevention of illness for individuals and groups throughout the life span, and 3) effective utilization of current research for evidence-based nursing practice.

The program provides an economical and accessible education. Using the nursing process as a guide, caring, critical thinking, effective communication, and a holistic approach to safe nursing care are emphasized. The faculty members act as a catalyst for learning and serve as role models to encourage accountability, self-evaluation, and ethical decision making. Students are provided with individualized guidance and instruction to enhance each person’s educational growth and development.
