MEDICAL CODING & TERMINOLOGY

This course will prepare students for working in a Health Information Management department of a medical facility. This course covers the understanding of Medicare, Medicaid, commercial and liability insurances, and reviewing explanation of benefits.

Students will learn how to complete an electronic/paper CMS-1500 claim form. The Medical coding portion of the course will cover ICD-9-CM, International Classification of Disease Ninth Revision Clinical Modification Codes and CPT-4, Current Procedural Terminology Fourth Edition Codes. Topics include V and E codes and modifiers.
Upon completion of this class students will be presented with a Certificate of Competency for each of the areas covered and successfully completed.
